New York Giants T Shirt
(Special shout out to my Dad because he is the BIGGEST Giants fan I know, also, he got me this shirt!)
Hello again everyong. Here I am in front of a church in La Plaza de Almas. La Plaza de Almas is basically a square with lots of people milling around and lots of sales people trying to make a buck. I bought a pair of sunglasses as soon as I arrived because I forgot mine in the states.
At 10am, we had to meet at the fountain in the middle of the square. My group met up with the travel guide and we went to go get our pictures taken for our ISIC cards. An ISIC card is basically a student I.D. for the university we will be attending here, in Peru. Classes start bright and early on Tuesday.
After I got my picture taken, my group and I walked around a bit downtown which was fun. I purchased a few things at the market, including a hat and a cool, leatherbound notebook - I intend to use it for classes.
The rest of the day was basically filled with shopping. We took a taxi to another market called "El Molino," but I didn't get anything. It was similar to a flea market over in The United States, therefore there was nothing really authentic or specific to Peruvian culture there.
We ate at Don Esteban's again, but it was a different one than yesterday. I got some eggs today - nothing glamorous. Oh! I also, spotted a woman on the side of the street cutting up some fresh pineapple and selling it for 50 centabas per piece. So I capitalized on her side hustle and got two pieces...what a refreshing snack.
After my long shopping-filled journey, two of my friends and I went to a Starbucks in La Plaza de Almas. I know what you're thinking - she traveled ALL that way to go to a STARBUCKS?! Okay, listen, not for nothing, but we tried to go to a small, Peruvian cafe, and a simple cup of coffee cost 6 soles...(that's like nearly 3 bucks). So then we rationalized that if we were going to pay extreme amounts of money for a simple cup of coffee then it might as well be from a place that charges us extreme amounts of coffee on the regular. That place, my friends, would be Starbucks.
Alright, so that's my day in a summary. To be honest, I have not been feeling 100 percent. I think being 17500 feet above sea level is getting the best of me. For those who don't know, alttitude sickness is a biotch. Look that ish UP! Sigh.
Hasta manana mis amores.
