Day 12 - One third of the way through!

Here I am doing homework in my room, wearing a Scarlet Pub Tee. Shout outs to everyone who helped me celebrate my 21st birthday and went out with me to this great, NB bar.

Today was, in a word, very busy.

Today was the beginning of my second week of class. Every week, we are assigned a new teacher. My new teacher is named, Erwin. He picked on me a fair amount. One of the first things he said to me was, "how old are you?"

I responded with, "21"

He said, "you look 14." Sigh.

Throughout the class, he seemed to target me a little more than others. For example, he said that I was extremely serious and sad. I didn't want to tell him that I was just in class therefore there was nothing grandiose for me to be super excited about.

He then asked me what I thought of my classmates. I told him that I thought they were friendly and nice. He responded with, "more friendly and nicer than you, right?"

Sigh.

Moving forward, I walked around Cusco a little bit with Louis after class. I got some coffee from a place called, "Misky." It was very robust and I enjoyed it a lo -

That isn't a typo. Here's what happened...

I was walking on the narrow sidewalk down an alley with Louis. A taxi was dropping a passenger off. The passenger opened the side door while the car was moving, thus hitting my hand that held my cup of coffee - without a top.

The coffee spilled all over my face and sweatshirt.

After that brief incident, we began to walk back home. We stopped on our way home in front of our school because there was a lady selling chocolate covered fruit on a stick. I got chocolate covered strawberries. They were also dipped in sprinkles. YUM!

Then, I went to community service from 2:30 to 5:30. We played Jenga with the kids and watched them color and knit. For the last hour of my time at Buen Pastor, I hung out with a girl named, Margoth. She is so sweet. She tried (opperative word, "tried") to teach me how to dance. In turn, I taught her the robot and the box step...

We also talked about her likes and dislikes and I taught her some English.

Something very interesting is how difficult it is for the young girls at Buen Pastor to pronounce English words. Something as simple as "red" doesn't quite come out sounding correct. I tried to teach Margoth and the other girls how to position their tounges and throats in order to correctly pronounce some words.

The most difficult sounds for the girls to pronounce are "ar" sounds, "th" sounds and "zee" sounds.

After volunteering, Estefania, Nichole and I went to go get Chifa at Dian Hong's. It was delicious! I had soup and Chufa (fried rice) con una tortilla con veduras.

I just finished my homework assignment. It was pretty short. I just had to describe the differences between the usages of the pretérito simple and the pretérito perfecto.

That's all for now...tomorrow I have class and community service again. Oh, and of course, left over Chifa! =)

Hasta manana mis amores!
